Allium bulbs should be planted in autumn, with the pointed end facing upwards, at a depth of approximately 3 times their height. Choose a sunny position in free draining soil.

Feed regularly with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds. Border grown Azaleas will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their shallow roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound the mulch too close to the stem as this may cause it to rot. Azaleas require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary in June.
