Plant bulbs in autumn, in a sandy, free draining soil at a depth of 5cm (2"). Chilean Blue Crocus bulbs require a sunny position that is sheltered from hard frosts. They require a warm, dry dormant period in summer and dislike excessively wet soil in winter. In wetter areas they are therefore best grown in containers in a greenhouse.

Water regularly while bulbs are in active growth. Reduce watering as the leaves begin to die back. During dormant periods in summer, keep the bulbs in a warm position with the compost just moist. Tecophilaea may be slow to flower in the first year or two but don't be tempted to move them - your patience will be rewarded!
