Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Japanese Wisteria is often much showier than its Chinese cousin and this collection of two superb varieties will not disappoint! Japanese Wisteria bears pea-like flowers in racemes which reach up to 45cm (18") long. The sweetly scented blooms cascade from vigorous twining stems covered with attractive pinnate leaves. These stunning deciduous climbers are the prefect choice for cottage garden walls. The collection comprises Wisteria floribunda ‘Rosea’, with exquisite pale rose pink blooms, and Wisteria floribunda 'Alba', in pristine white. (Also available separately). Both varieties have the RHS AGM for their flower power and superb garden performance. Height: 8m (26’). Spread: 4m (13’).

Culinary information: The flowers are the only edible part of the plant and can be made into an aromatic wine. Their flavour is perfumed. Caution: All other parts of wisteria are poisonous. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Caution: Harmful if eaten. Grow wisteria plants, in a sunny or semi shaded site in any moist, well drained soil. Wisteria flower buds can be damaged by hard spring frosts so choose a sheltered position. Prior to planting add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil. Alternatively grow wisteria plants in large containers of soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate framework to support its trained branches.
Feed and water regularly until fully established. In autumn or spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Prune wisteria in July and again in February. During the first two years, prune wisteria to create a framework of permanent stems. Tie in selected lateral shoots to sturdy supports and cut back unwanted growth. Once the desired framework has been created, continue pruning wisteria twice a year to contain the plants growth within its allotted space.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
