Acclimatise hardy orchids to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them outdoors in sun or dappled shade. These terrestrial orchids prefer a rich, fertile, well drained, moist soil. Prior to planting, improve the soil by digging in plenty of well rotted organic matter. Cypripedium requires an acid to neutral, reliably moist soil that does not dry out in summer or sit waterlogged in winter.
Water hardy orchids regularly during hot, dry periods to prevent the soil from drying out. An autumn mulch of bark chips will help to protect the crown of the plants during the winter months. In particularly cold areas Bletilla rhizomes can be lifted in late autumn and stored dry, in a frost free greenhouse until the following spring. Divide over-crowded clumps in spring to increase their longevity.
We will do our best to ship your plants or bulbs to you at the ideal time for planting as stated against each product. You will find the name of the variety printed on the top line of the address label on your package. Please ensure that you open the packaging immediately and carefully read through the instruction leaflet provided. For greatest success, please pot on or plant out as soon as possible, following the cultural instructions enclosed with your order.
