Pot up plants using free-draining compost, and grow campion on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Once they are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting them outdoors. Grow silene plants on fertile, well drained, neutral to alkaline soil, in full sun or dappled shade. Avoid planting Campion in soils that are excessively wet in winter.
Water silene plants regularly until they are fully established. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in spring. Campion flowers self-seed freely. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead stems of silene flowers as the blooms fade.
