A real eye-catcher! Red lantern flowers are carried throughout summer on the slender stems of this semi evergreen shrub. Ideal for conservatories and perfect in patio containers which can be moved to a frost free position in winter. In mild areas this half hardy shrub may be grown in sheltered borders outdoors and makes an excellent specimen for training against walls and fences. Height: 2m (78"). Supplied: 30 -40cm (12-16") high in 9cm pot.

Caution: Harmful if eaten. When growing Abutilon in patio containers, use a loam based compost such as John Innes No. 2. Repot the plants at their original soil level and firm well into the new container. Water well and position in sun or semi shade. In mild areas, plant Abutilon directly into sheltered borders in any moist, free draining soil. If your soil is particularly free draining, improve it by adding some well rotted manure or garden compost.

Feed and water Abutilon regularly throughout the spring and summer. Abutilon particularly dislikes very dry soil and will drop its leaves if allowed to dry out and wilt. In winter, watering should be reduced significantly. Abutilon planted directly into borders will require winter protection from hard frosts. Pot grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over the winter months. In spring, prune out any damaged or dead stems and lightly shape the crown of the plant.
