Fascicularia bicolour

This eye-catching exotic Bromeliad makes an extraordinary sight in rockeries, alpine gardens and containers. Fascicularia forms spiky rosettes of linear, silver-green and scarlet red leaves with a central boss of astonishing metallic blue flowers. Surprisingly, this Chilean native is hardy to -10C (14F) when grown in very free draining soils, but will appreciate cloche protection during winter as it resents cold, wet conditions. Alternatively, grow Fascicularia bicolour in a pot that can be moved to a dry, frost free position over winter. Supplied in 13cm pot. Height: 40cm (16"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Venus Fly Trap

Dionaea muscipula

Found naturally in the wet savannahs and swamps of south-east USA this is one of the most popular carnivorous plants. The Venus Fly Trap lures its insect victims onto it’s ‘traps’ with the promise of nectar, before snapping shut around the insect, trapping it in a leafy prison. This intriguing plant is best grown on a windowsill or in a cool greenhouse. Dionaea muscipula makes a fascinating talking point and a most interesting plant to grow. Supplied in 9cm pots. Eccremocarpus scaber 'Chilean Sunset'

(Chilean Glory Flower)

This Chilean glory flower is an exotic looking climber with wonderful, fiery orange, tubular flowers that look like blown glass lamps. This quick growing climber will quickly cover a trellis or cling to a conifer hedge to add colour and interest throughout summer. In mild areas Eccremocarpus scaber 'Chilean Sunset' will die down in winter and, given a little protection, will re-appear stronger the next year. In cold areas it is best grown outdoors as an annual, or planted in containers that can be moved to a frost free position during winter months. Height: 3m (10'). Spread: 1m (3'). Mirabilis jalapa

(Four o' Clock Flower, Marvel of Peru)

This unusual, bushy, half hardy perennial is also known as the Marvel of Peru after its place of origin. Mirabilis flowers open during the afternoon, producing a sweet fragrance, and remain open through the night until the following morning. Amazing bright blooms of red, pink, yellow and white are often found on the same plant at one time creating a truly astonishing display. Although perennial, in most parts of the UK Mirabilis jalapa plants are best grown as an annual in borders outside. However, container grown plants will return year after year if moved to a dry frost free position during winter. Height and spread: 60cm (24"). Supplied as bareroot. More info
