Caution: irritant to skin and eyes. On delivery of your bareroot Alstroemeria plants please plant them at the earliest opportunity. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged), bareroots should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position for planting out at a later date. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position in moist, well drained soil and work some well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the bareroot with its roots spread out and deep enough that the crown of the plant is just a few cm below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Leave a slight depression around the plant - this will help to direct water towards the roots. Water well to settle the soil. Alternatively, grow Alstroemeria in containers using soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. When picking alstroemeria pluck the flowers rather than cutting as plucking stimulates the rhizome encourage further growth. In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant. Lift and divide clumps of Peruvian Lily in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour.

They just didn't grow
By Jessica Fisher 26-05-2016
What arrived wasn't 3 bare roots. I think there may have been one, the rest was just scraps and bits of root with no life in them. I planted them hopefully, but absolutely nothing grew. It was a costly disappointment for my first ever order from Van Meuwen. So I won't be ordering anything again.
