Hardy Perennial

Primulas are ideal for filling damp, shady spots and simply stunning in large groups around bog gardens and woodlands. Their erect stems also make superb cut flowers for a pretty posy indoors. Height and spread: 60cm (24"). Supplied as 30mm plugs.

  • Collection comprises 5 plants each of:
  • Primula vialii - Stately crimson-budded spikes of bloom open to lilac, giving the flowers a magical two toned effect.
  • Primula candelabra - Tiers of rosette-like flowers burst into bloom to create a mass of vibrant colour.
  • Primula denticulata - Stout stems bear globes of bell-shaped yellow-eyed flowers in shades of pink, purple and white.

Pot up plugs into 9cm pots and grow them on in cool, lightly shaded conditions. When primula plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days prior to planting them in their final positions. Plant primulas in containers and borders in fertile, reliably moist soil. Primulas prefer a shaded position but will cope in full sun if soil is constantly moist.
Feed and water plants regularly. Do not let soil dry out completely.Deadhead faded primula flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced.In autumn, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of border grown plants.
