A deciduous shrub or multi-stemmed tree, Pomegranate 'Provence' makes a fantastic specimen plant for borders or large containers. Vibrant orange-red flowers are borne over a long period in summer, amongst glossy bright green leaves. The leathery-skinned fruits ripen in mild autumns ready for harvesting in October or November. These delicious pomegranate fruits can be enjoyed in desserts or try juicing them for a refreshing sweet-sharp drink. Height: 3m (10'). Spread: 1.5m (5'). Supplied in a 3 litre pot.Useful links:

Pomegranates are hardy to -15°C (5°F) but have the best chances of producing fruit in a warm, sheltered position. Grow pomegranate trees in sunny, sheltered borders which are protected from cold drying winds. Plant them in fertile, well drained soil, incorporating plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil prior to planting. Plant pomegranates at the same level as they were in the pot and firm them in. Water the plants well to settle the soil. In particularly cold areas grow pomegranates in containers which can be moved to a sheltered spot over winter.Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young pomegranate trees become established. Apply a mulch of compost or well rotted manure in the spring to help retain soil moisture.
Pomegranates are best grown as multi-stemmed trees on short stems. Prune pomegranate trees in spring or summer. Select 3 or 4 branches to form a framework and remove any crowded, crossing or diseased branches. Other than this, pruning should be kept to a minimum for the best chance of fruiting. Remove any suckers which appear at the base of the plant. Pomegranate fruits can be harvested from October when the base of the fruit has become curled and brown. Use secateurs to cut them from the branch.
Container-grown pomegranates should be moved to a warmer position through the winter months, such as a cool, bright greenhouse or conservatory.
