Golden Berry

Physalis peruviana (Cape Gooseberry, Physalis edulis, Ground Cherry)

Golden Berry, also known as the Cape gooseberry, is an exciting addition to the kitchen garden. Tall, bushy plants produce golden berries enclosed in attractive papery cases, similar to Chinese lanterns. The berries, which are produced from early autumn, are similar to a ripe cherry tomato in texture and the flavour is sweet but tart, perfect in fruit salads, jams or as an eye-catching garnish! Physalis peruviana is half-hardy so is normally grown as an annual plant in the UK. Height and spread: 120cm (47"). More info

Sharon Fruit

Diospyros (Persimmon)

The Persimmon tree produces orange coloured Sharon fruit in late autumn which are best harvested after the first frosts have softened the very sweet, tomato sized fruit. This attractive tree is also grown for its excellent autumn foliage which turns to shades of orange, red and purple. Height: 8m (26') Spread: 5m (16'). Supplied in 11cm pot.

Blackcurrant 'Ben Sarek'

Ribes nigrum

This neat compact variety produces an abundance of delicious, large Blackcurrants from July to August. Blackcurrant 'Ben Sarek' is particularly tolerant of frost and has good mildew resistance too. The delicious fruits of this productive variety can be eaten fresh or added to pies, jams and jellies. Bareroot plants supplied. Height and spread: 120cm (48").

Whitecurrant 'Versailles'

Ribes rubrum

With a vigorous, bushy habit Whitecurrant 'Versailles' produces reliable crops of delicious juicy fruits. Heavy yields of pale yellow currants are carried on long trusses that can be harvested from July onwards. These attractive Whitecurrants have a less acidic flavour than their Redcurrant relatives making them ideal for eating straight from the plant for a delicious fresh dessert. Supplied as bareroot. Solanum muricatum (Mini Melon)

(Melon Pear, Melon Shrub, Pepino Dulce)

Also known as the 'Melon Pear' or 'Pepino Dulce', this unusual South American fruit has deliciously juicy flesh with a sweet flavour similar to a cantaloupe melon. The rounded fruits have a creamy skin with distinctive purple markings - fabulous for something a little bit different in the kitchen garden!
