Plant strawberry plants in patio containers during September or April. Choose a sheltered, sunny position in well drained compost such as John Innes No.2.Spread out their roots and place them in the soil at a level where the crown of the plant is just poking above the surface. Planting too deeply may cause them to rot!
Water strawberries frequently throughout the growing season. Feed container grown plants every two weeks. Remove any runners that are produced in early summer as these will weaken the plants vigour. (They look like a long flexible stem with a baby plant at the very end). In May, place straw either side of each plant to protect developing fruit from slugs and raise fruits off of the ground. Place a net over the plants to protect your crop from greedy birds! After cropping remove netting and straw to allow better air flow around the crown of the plant. Mulch strawberry plants with well rotted manure every spring. Although strawberry plants will continue to fruit in successive years, the crop will become considerably reduced and it is advisable to completely replace plants every 3 years.
We will do our best to ship your plants or bulbs to you at the ideal time for planting as stated against each product. We recommend that you prepare your soil, planting beds or patio containers ahead of time so you are ready to plant out, or pot on, just as soon as your order arrives. You will find the name of the variety printed on the top line of the address label on your package. Please ensure that you open the packaging immediately and carefully read through the instruction leaflet provided. For greatest success, please pot on or plant out as soon as possible, following the cultural instructions enclosed with your order.
