How to Grow
Chimonanthus - Wintersweet
Grow Chimonanthus in borders or against walls in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun.
Although Wintersweet is hardy, the young stems can be damaged by hard frosts. Choose a sheltered position to protect the plant.
Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil.
Plant the shrub at the same depth as it was in its pot. Firm the soil around the rootball and water well.
Aftercare
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants become established.
Prune Wintersweet in spring, immediately after flowering. Remove any damaged or diseased stems and lightly shape the plant.
After pruning, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant.
