Orange blushed, yellow skin surrounds the deep orange, juicy flesh that ripens in August and September. Grow as a small bush in a sunny position or in cooler parts of the UK train against a west to south facing wall.

Hippophae rhamnoides. The berries are strung like pearls on the branches of this remarkable tree. Not only has the bush great decorative value but for centuries has been prized for its health properties. Not many know the fruit contains so many vitamins and minerals that even citrus fruits cannot compete. The content of Vitamins C, B and Betacarotene is high, therefore, enormously beneficial to the immune system. To get these benefits use the berries in energy drinks, purées and jams. The herb-like taste is very pleasant and goes well with meat dishes.
