IMPORTANT

This guide has been produced to help you get the best results from the items you have ordered. Please follow the general instructions below and the specific information relating to your items detailed in this booklet.

Unpack and check all contents against the packing list without delay. If you have ordered other items that have not yet arrived they will be sent later at the correct planting time. Plant everything immediately. If you are unable to do this, keep items cool.

Bulbs Corms and Tubers

If they cannot be planted immediately store in a cool, frost proof place. Ensure that the bags are opened to allow the air to circulate, to keep the moisture content down, and reduce the risk of mildew.

Plants, Roses, Shrubs and Fruit

Plant immediately upon arrival, weather permitting. If this is not possible, store in a cool but frost proof place, away from draughts, where the plastic packaging will enable the plants to survive without attention for several days. Ensure that roots are kept moist.

If storage for more than a few days is required, heeling in is recommended. Make a narrow trench in a sheltered part of the garden, remove plastic wrap from the items to be placed in the trench (pot grown items can remain in their pots). Water well and cover with soil. This should allow the plant to survive until conditions allow planting in a permanent position. Soak roots overnight before planting.

At some times of the year plants, roses and shrubs are dormant and may therefore appear lifeless. Plant in accordance with the above instructions and as soon as the warmer days of spring arrive they will start to grow.

Water all plants well and continuously until they are well established.

All tender items despatched must have protection from frosts.

Shrubs will grow well in any fertile soil, but require an open position with good drainage. Soak the roots for 2-3 hours prior to planting. Spread the roots out carefully and plant firmly. When planting is complete water well and continue watering for a few days if the weather is dry. Distance apart to plant varies according to variety.
