The twining stems of Schisandra chinensis bear clusters of small but beautiful creamy-pink blooms in early summer, which are followed in autumn by pendants of edible, scarlet red berries. These colourful fruits are known to be high in vitamin C, E, minerals and essential oils, and sweetened fruit is used to make juice, preserves and even wine! Supplied in 9cm pots. Height: 10m (32ft). Grow Schisandra against a wall or fence in rich fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. Youth berry is a twining climber which will require trellis or wires for support.
Feed and water Youth Berry plants regularly until fully established. In the first couple of years the main stem of Schisandra should be trained to form a permanent framework. Thereafter cut back sideshoots to 3 or 4 buds from the main stem.
