Miscanthus sinensis 'Silberspinne'

(Maiden Grass, Eulalia)

Hardy Perennial

A big impact in summer borders for very little effort! From late summer, this low maintenance perennial grass produces spidery panicles of bronze tipped flower-spikes that slowly fade to silver as they mature. The tall flower stems rise magnificently above clumps of arching, green foliage. The stately flower spikes are most numerous following a long hot summer, and make a superb addition to cut flower arrangements. Miscanthus sinensis 'Silberspinne' is lower growing than many of the species, but equally impressive. Height: 120cm (47"). Spread: 50cm (20"). Supplied in 9cm pots.

Grow Miscanthus grass in fertile, moist, well drained soil in full sun. Maiden Grass resents soils that sit wet in winter. Prior to planting, improve drainage on particularly heavy soils by incorporating plenty of well rotted compost and grit.
Feed and water Miscanthus plants regularly until fully established. Cut back dead foliage and stems to ground level in early spring before new growth appears. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Miscanthus grass every third year to maintain their vigour.
