Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a moist, well drained acid to neutral soil that is high in organic matter. If you don't have acid soil, incorporate plenty of ericaceous compost into your border prior to planting. Plant bareroot Magnolias at the same depth as they were previously planted. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil. If your magnolia arrives with shoots coming out below the grafts, then prune off shoots below the graft to enable the magnolia to flourish.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Magnolia plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Magnolias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems.
We will do our best to ship your plants or bulbs to you at the ideal time for planting as stated against each product. We recommend that you prepare your soil, planting beds or patio containers ahead of time so you are ready to plant out, or pot on, just as soon as your order arrives. You will find the name of the variety printed on the top line of the address label on your package. Please ensure that you open the packaging immediately and carefully read through the instruction leaflet provided. For greatest success, please pot on or plant out as soon as possible, following the cultural instructions enclosed with your order.
  1. Magnolia Sunrise

    By Anna Shepherd 16-04-2017

Ordered a standard. When it flowered it was definitely not the variety I expected as the flowers were clearly pink and cerise. The growth was lopsided and leaves kept emerging from the base and trunk. Nevertheless it seemed quite healthy so didn't complain. Moved house recently and left it there as I was not that impressed with it.

  2. Magnolia Sunrise Patio variety

    By Diana Mott 15-04-2017

I was sceptical about ordering this shrub. Had seen 'wonderful' offers from other mail companies and been disappointed with quality of product but this magnolia looked so unusual and had the 'wow' factor, I decided to risk it. Magnolia was delivered promptly and in good order. I expected a weedy twig but received a strong healthy plant with buds. I am thrilled and can't wait to see it develop. (Having read a previous review, just hope it is the variety ordered but do not see why it shouldn't be). Thank you.
