Magnolia ‘Susan’ creates a wonderful show in spring and is perfect for a smaller garden or even a large container as it reaches only 4m in height and has a neat, upright habit. Its deep purple-red buds open into loose, goblet shaped flowers with a bit of a twist on the petals, giving this a slightly wilder appearance than other Magnolias. This deciduous Magnolia has a good fragrance and prefers acid soil. Height: 4m (12’). Spread: 3m (10’).

Culinary information: The young flowers, once separated, can be pickled and then used either on their own as a treat or in salads. For more details about edible flowers click here.
