Plant chitalpa trees in full sun, in any well drained garden soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils.
Water chitalpas regularly until fully established. When pruning chitalpa in winter or early spring, remove any damaged or crossing stems to maintain a healthy open framework. Cut back any suckering shoots that appear at the base of the plant.
