Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
The small rounded leaves of the Katsura tree are constantly changing with the seasons. Minute red flowers extend along the naked branches in spring before the young foliage unfurls to reveal a beautiful shade of bronze pink. The leaves slowly colour to bright green with maturity, until autumns approach sees them turned to a vibrant gold and orange. Cercidiphyllum japonicum forms an attractive, often multi-stemmed tree. This RHS AGM variety makes a fabulous specimen tree for a woodland setting or a smaller garden! Supplied in 9cm pot. Height and spread: 10m (32ft).

Please note: Plants offered in 9cm pots are in their first year of growth, supplied as a tall single stem with no side shoot growth. Once planted, they will go on to bud and branch out in their second year. Therefore a single stem bought this autumn will start to produce side branches next spring.

Grow Cercidiphyllum trees in rich fertile, moist, well drained soil, that is preferably neutral to acid. Choose a position in full sun or dappled shade, with shelter from cold winds. Incorporate plenty of organic matter, such as compost or well-rotted manure, into your border prior to planting. Plant the Katsura tree at the same depth as it was planted in its container. Backfill the planting hole, firm in and water well to settle the soil.
Water Katsura trees regularly throughout the growing season until plants are fully established. Cercidiphyllum trees naturally form a pleasing, often multi-stemmed tree. Little pruning is needed except to remove any damaged or poorly placed branches in late winter if necessary. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant, taking care not to mound it up against the trunk.
