Agapanthus 'Pinnochio' is a dwarf variety with the same stiff architectural stems and striking soft blue trumpet shaped flowers of its larger cousins. This compact perennial forms neat clumps of deciduous strap-like foliage that make it ideal for growing in patio containers or towards the front of borders. Agapanthus flowers are excellent for cutting and the ornamental seed heads add structure and interest to autumn gardens. Height: to 60cm (24 inches). Spread: 45cm (18 inches). Bareroot plants supplied.

On delivery of your bareroot Agapanthus plants please plant them at the earliest opportunity. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged), bareroots should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position for planting out at a later date. Choose a sunny position in moist, well drained soil and work some well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the bareroot with its roots spread out and deep enough that the crown of the plant is just a few cm below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Leave a slight depression around the plant - this will help to direct water towards the roots. Water well to settle the soil. Alternatively, grow Agapanthus in containers using soil based compost such as John Innes No.3 and position in full sun.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural qualities until they become blackened by frost. Border grown plants will benefit from the winter protection of an autumn mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost. Container grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter.
