Flowering Months
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural qualities until they become blackened by frost. Border grown plants will benefit from the winter protection of an autumn mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost. Container grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter.
Pot up plug plants using a good quality compost and grow agapanthus plants on in warm, frost free conditions until they are large enough to be transplanted outdoors. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting in a sunny position in moist, well drained soil. Water well to settle the soil. Alternatively, grow Agapanthus in containers using soil based compost such as John Innes No.3 and position in full sun.
