Alliums are unmistakable in their sheer elegance and beauty, rising on slender stems, the characteristic pom-pom like heads look stunning when in full colour and also make amazing dried flowers too, as the seedheads form complex designs. Perfect for planting in drifts in flower beds or growing in large clumps in pots too.

This allium collection comprises of:
  • Allium roseum:
  • - the rosy garlic, with its pale pink, loosely formed flower heads growing above narrow, almost grass like leaves. Height 60cm (24"). Spread: 10cm (4"). (14 bulbs)
  • Allium caeruleum:

  • Allium sphaerocephalon:
  • – beautiful gown on large swathes, this subtle variety has unusual purple/green flower heads. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 8cm (3"). (30 bulbs)
  • Allium 'Purple Sensation':
  • – Bold and beautiful flowerheads up to 3” across make a strong statement in any display – definitely on to keep for it’s seedhead too! Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 10cm (4"). Size 9/10 (3 bulbs)
  • Allium 'Mount Everest':
  • - Globes of more than 50 star-shaped blooms during June, just before your summer bedding comes into flower. (3 bulbs)

Alliums require little maintenance. Leave stems of faded allium flowers intact to enjoy their spectacular seedheads in autumn. Divide overcrowded clumps of alliums after flowering. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
Alliums thrive in light sandy, well drained soil in full sun. Avoid planting in cold wet soils as the bulbs are prone to rot in these conditions. Plant allium bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4") and a distance of 10cm (4") apart. A slow release fertilizer can be added to poor soils at the time of planting to improve fertility. When growing alliums, plant them where the leaves of other plants will cover the base of their stems. This will hide the old foliage which dies back before flowering begins.
