Caladium ‘Fantasy is a strikingly eye-catching tropical beauty. Large, heart shaped leaves are openly displayed, showing off the white tone with green veins and raspberry-red ribs, there is no way you will miss this. They make ideal houseplants and are also loved in the garden in the summer months. As they thrive well in shade, they are ideal in the awkward spots a lot of other houseplants would not normally survive in. As they are tropical, they do also need some humidity so would be happy in a kitchen, bathroom, or conservatory.

When the summer arrives, they can be moved outside to the patio or even be potted into borders where it will be well shaded. As autumn arrives the foliage will naturally die back, and before the first frost comes move the plant back indoors or move to a warmer spot to protect it, then replant again in the spring. Height 60cm (24") and spread: 50cm (20").

Plant Caladium tubers into individual pots at a depth of 5cm (2”), using a good quality compost. Grow them on in warm, frost free conditions with consistent temperatures of 20C (68F). A shaded north facing windowsill is ideal, but protect the delicate foliage from scorching direct sun. When plants are well grown and outdoor temperatures are reliably warm, Caladiums can be moved outdoors to a lightly shaded spot on the patio, or planted into borders in moist, fertile soil. Protect plants from direct sun and drying winds.

Feed and water Caladiums regularly throughout the growing season. In early autumn, well before the first frosts, return plants to their warm position indoors. Alternatively, cut back the old foliage and lift the tubers. Allow them to dry, before storing them in paper bags or trays of loose compost in a frost free position over winter. They can be replanted in the following spring.
