This perennial reed grass has feathery flower heads on long slender stems that blow in the breeze. As an architectural plant, with arching leaves, and bronze feathery panicles during the summer, Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster' makes a light and airy screen to divide up gardens, or to soften large walls or fences. It also looks great in large borders or in minimalist gardens, planted in clumps amongst gravel. It is fast growing and low maintenance. Height: 1.8m (5.9') Spread: 50cm (19").

Grow Calamagrostis in moist, but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. This perennial grass will tolerate of many different types of soils, apart from very poor soils.
Leave spent flower stems on plants until the following spring; this will ensure added winter interest. Cut back stems in early spring, just before the new growth emerges.
