Heathers, or Ling, as they are commonly called, have a multitude of uses in the garden and this low-growing hardy shrub can be used in many different ways. Calluna vulgaris 'Dark Star' is a particularly delightful evergreen and is often used as a low groundcover because of its easy, spreading habit. This attractive heather is covered with semi-double cerise/crimson flowers from August through to November. Calluna vulgaris 'Dark Star' brightens the garden when many other flowers have finished, bringing a vibrant splash to borders; rockeries; gravel gardens; wildlife gardens; pots and containers. Just give it some acid soil and sunshine; sit back and wait for the show. Height: 20cm (8"). Spread: 35cm (14").

Calluna plants require a rich, well drained, acid soil. Choose an open position in full sun. When growing Heathers in containers, use a good quality ericaeous compost.

During the growing season, water Heather plants regularly and feed with a half-strength liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks. After flowering, trim Heathers with shears to remove faded blooms and promote bushy growth.

Seeds and garden supplies will normally be delivered within the time period stated against each product as detailed above. Plants, bulbs, corms, tubers, shrubs, trees, potatoes, etc. are delivered at the appropriate time for planting or potting on.
