Calycanthus Duo, has two varieties with gorgeous clematis-like flowers and glossy dark green foliage on gentle arching branches. The flowers are sweetly scented, which is the reason this type of plant is commonly known as 'Sweet Spice'. They can grow up to 4 metres in height, so they are great for a wide border, in dappled shade, in a medium or large sized garden. They can also be pruned if you want to grow them in a more compact space.

Calycanthus Duo comprises:
Calycanthus x raulstonii 'Hartlage Wine'- A rare but delightful, multi-stemmed shrub with upright to arching branches, bearing lustrous green, oval leaves and rich, burgundy blooms. Height and spread: 4m (13').
Calycanthus 'Venus' - Produces extremely fragrant, magnolia-like flowers with white strap-like petals in May. Height: 1.8m (6'). Spread: 1.5m (5').

Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, prune Calycanthus in early spring as the buds begin to swell. Cut back all stems to a low permanent framework, 3 or 4 buds from the base of the plant. After pruning, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant.
