The glorious flower spikes of Camassia are an elegant addition to the late spring garden, where the delightful show fills the gap between spring bulbs and summer perennials. Native to damp meadowland in North America, these bulbs were once highly prized as a food source. This gorgeous collection in shades of white, purple and blue look fantastic grown in damp borders, the edge of woodland gardens or in informal grassy meadows, where they will happily naturalise. They also make excellent cut flowers for a vase indoors. Supplied as bulbs.

Collection comprises:
Camassia 'Plum Tart' - Elegant spikes of star-shaped flowers in a rich plum purple. Height: 80cm (31"). Spread: 20cm (8").
Camassia leichtlinii 'Alba' - Pure white blooms with lilac-blue anthers. Height: 80cm (31"). Spread: 20cm (8").
Camassia quamash 'Blue' - Star-shaped blooms in a cool purple-blue. Height: 50cm (20"). Spread: 20cm (8").

Grow Camassia in a sunny or partially shaded position in fertile, moist, well-drained soil, avoiding areas which become water-logged. Plant Camassia bulbs approximately 10cm (4") deep and 20cm (8") apart. Camassia plants resent disturbance so are best planted in undisturbed borders or grassy areas, where they can be left to naturalise. For a natural look try casting Quamash bulbs across the lawn or planting area and plant them where they land.

Camassia plants require little maintenance but in winter, will benefit from a dry mulch, such as straw or bark chips, to protect them from hard frosts. If growing Camassia in grassy areas allow the foliage to yellow and die back completely before mowing. Avoid moving them as this may delay the development of these colourful Camassia flowers.
