Extend the interest in your garden between autumn and spring by bringing some much needed colour into your winter garden with our Clematis Duo Collection. The unusual winter flowering blooms of Clematis napaulensis and Clematis 'Advent Bells' will fill your garden with both colour and sweet fragrances for enjoyment on even the coldest of days. Grow these clematis plants up a wall or fence, in a patio container or even train over obelisks with other climbers to extend interest to all year round.

Collection includes;

  • Clematis napaulensis - Large clusters of scented, white, bell-shaped flowers with rich purple filaments appear from November through to March. Clematis napaulensis is hardy when grown in a sheltered position and needs very little maintenance. Grow it through a deciduous shrub or alongside another climber to cover its bare stems in summer. Height: 3m (118") or more, depending on growing conditions and maturity. Spread: 1.5m (59"). Pruning group: 1.
  • Clematis 'Advent Bells' - Clematis ‘Advent Bells’ is an exciting cross between C. napaulensis x C. cirrhosa ‘Freckles’. Flowers emerge in November through to January. Each nodding flower is creamy white with the inside heavily speckled with red. This strong growing winter clematis is perfect for training up walls and fences, or growing over an obelisk on the patio. Height: 5m (15’). Spread: 3m (10’). Pruning group: 1.

Upgrade with any of the following - 1m Obelisk, 1.5m Obelisk, Anvil Secateurs or Clematis Fertiliser.

2 x 7cm Potted Plants (KB3875)

When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3”) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. Clematis 'Advent Bells' requires only occasional feeding as too much fertiliser will result in fewer flowers. This variety of clematis flowers in late winter and early spring on the previous year’s growth. Pruning should be undertaken in summer, after flowering. When pruning a Group 1 Clematis, remove any damaged or dead stems entirely before cutting back the remaining stems to a pair of healthy buds to maintain the plant within its allotted space. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in order to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
