Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
A large flowered clematis, Clematis 'Rahvarinne' flowers between July and September and has uniquely shaped purple-red blooms. It does well in semi shade where the sun will not fade the velvety petals. It looks great planted alongside a white clematis and also is a good match with earlier flowering clematis, so a flowering display lasts throughout the season. It is very easy to look after, simply cut right back to ground level in the autumn and it will return in full glory the followiing summer. Height: 2m (6'). Spread: 1m (3') Pruning group: 3.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow Clematis in sheltered sunny borders in any moist, well drained soil. Clematis plants particularly dislike dry soils so add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve moisture retention in summer. Plant clematis with the top of the rootball positioned 7.5cm (3”) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Be sure to provide the twining stems with an appropriate support, such as trellis or wires attached to fences and pergolas. Alternatively grow clematis up freestanding plant frames in patio containers. When planting in containers, use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. When pruning a group 3 Clematis remember that it flowers on the current year's growth. In spring, simply cut back all of the previous year's growth to a pair of strong buds at the base of the plant. Afterwards, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant.
