Unlike other Cabbage Palms, Cordyline ‘Festival Burgundy’ is a hybrid form with a unique branching basal habit. Its short, grass-like leaves form a bushy cascade of shining dark purple foliage. Cordyline ‘Festival Burgundy’ makes a fantastic specimen for containers or exotic borders, pairing beautifully with hot-coloured flowers. Its evergreen foliage provides colour, texture and structure throughout the year in small urban spaces such as terraces, balconies and courtyards. It is also a smart choice for coastal gardens where it will tolerate salt-laden coastal winds. Height and spread: 1m (39in).

Grow Cordylines on fertile, well drained soil. Choose a sheltered position in full sun. Cordylines are particularly well suited to mild coastal locations but do enjoy a fertile soil, so it is well worth incorporating some well rotted manure into the soil when planting.

Feed and water regularly until fully established. Once established, Cordylines need little attention, but will require some winter protection should temperatures dip below-5C (23F). In cold areas it may be preferable to grow Cordylines in large patio containers that can be moved undercover during the coldest months.
