A showy Flowering Dogwood, producing a fine, long lasting display in spring. The small green flowers are surrounded by gleaming white, or pink tinged bracts, giving the appearance of large, open petals. In autumn the green, wavy-edged foliage turns to a rich tapestry of purple-red shades. Cornus florida is a handsome, deciduous tree with a conical habit. It makes an eye-catching specimen tree for smaller gardens and the edges of woodlands. Height: 6m (19’). Spread: 8m (26’).

Grow Cornus trees in rich fertile, well drained, neutral to acid soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil to improve drainage and soil fertility. Plant dogwood trees in a sunny or semi-shaded positi

Feed and water flowering dogwoods regularly until fully established. Once established, Cornus trees require only occasional attention. Pruning dogwood is best kept to a minimum, removing only occasional damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in late winter or early spring. As the tree matures the lower branches can be removed to create a clear trunk. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant in spring. Caution: Fruits are harmful if eaten, leaf hairs may irritate skin and eyes.
