Growing your own Saffron is all the rage! Now you can contrast your purple Saffron Crocus with this dazzling white variety. Harvest the golden stigma of Crocus sativus subsp. cartwrightianus 'Albus' and dry it before adding it to the spice rack. Unlike many Crocus, these beauties produce their display in autumn just as most plants are fading. A lovely variety for planting en masse throughout rockeries and gravel gardens where they will appreciate the free draining, gritty soil. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 5cm (2").

Grow crocus in any well drained garden soil in sun or semi shade. Spring flowering crocus bulbs should be planted during the autumn, in large clumps at a depth of 10cm (4") and at a distance of 7cm (3") apart. Alternatively grow them in containers or naturalised in grass.
Allow the strap like foliage to die back naturally after flowering. Avoid mowing areas of grass where crocus are naturalised until they have completely died back.
