Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Striking, cockscomb-like growth adds an unusual twist to this variety of Japanese Cedar. Cryptomeria japonica ‘Cristata’ bears an attribute known as ‘fasciation’ that causes flattening and distortion of the stem tips. The crested growth is scattered throughout and sometimes grows as large as a hand. Despite its modern looks, this slow-growing cedar is actually an old Japanese cultivar dating from before 1900 and is one of the most vigorous varieties displaying fasciated growth. Eventually growing into a slender, conical tree with upturned branches and dense, bright green foliage, it makes an eye-catching specimen. 'Cristata' takes pruning well and makes an excellent subject for topiary or bonsai. Height: 4m (13ft). Spread: 2m (6.5ft) in 10yrs.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
