Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
An unusual and interesting addition to the garden that is grown by top chefs and celebrity gardeners, Cucamelon 'Melothria' is very on trend in the kitchen and garden. This fruiting climber is very easy to grow and will thrive on a sunny patio or in a border, or even better in a greenhouse. Each plant will produce a heavy crop of mini melon fruits that taste like cucumber with a twist of lime. The grape sized fruits can be eaten straight fom the vine all summer long, or can be added to salads, salsas and pickles. With vigorous and decorative foliage this makes a stunning climber and can be grown on an ornate obelisk for any eye-catching focal point. For maximum fruit production we recommend stopping the main stems at 2.4m (8ft) and trim back all side shoots to 45cm (18"). Height: 2.4m (8ft). Spread: 50cm (20").

Pot up Cucamelon plants and grow them on in warm, frost free conditions. When plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, plant out in fertile well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny spot outdoors. Alternatively grow them in growbags in the greenhouse. Provide adequate support such as a trellis or framework of canes to support their rambling stems.
Feed and water Cucamelons regularly throughout the growing season. Train the long stems onto a supporting framework. Pinch out the tips of the stems to encourage branching. Cucamelons can be harvested when they are roughly the size of a grape. Fruits that are allowed to grow larger than this may develop a bitter flavour so they are best picked young.
