Grow cucumber plants on in warm, frost free conditions, maintaining a temperature of 15°C (59°F) until they are large enough to be transplanted. If growing cucumbers outdoors, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7-10 days once all risk of frost has passed. Grow cucumbers in any rich fertile, well-drained soil in full sun with shelter from strong winds. Space cucumber plants 90cm (35") apart. Alternatively plant cucumbers in containers of at least 30cm (12") diameter, using general multi-purpose compost. Greenhouse cucumbers can be planted in grow bags if required, using 2 plants per grow bag and spacing them 45cm (18") apart.
Water cucumber plants regularly and spray greenhouse pathways with water to create a humid atmosphere. Cucumber 'Cucino' will produce higher yields if allowed to climb. Train the main shoots on to 1.8m (6') canes or netting until they reach the top of their supports, then pinch out the growing point. Once fruits begin to develop, pinch out side-shoots leaving two leaves after each fruit. If growing cucumbers in containers or grow bags give them a balanced liquid feed every 2 weeks from mid-summer onwards. Harvest cucumbers regularly to prolong cropping and to ensure the best quality fruit.
