Sowing Months Flowering Months
  • Place seed on the surface of good free draining, damp compost and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite.
  • Seal container inside a polythene bag and keep at 15-20°C (59-68F) until after germination which usually takes 2-4 weeks. Do not exclude daylight as this helps germination.
  • Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart.
  • Alternatively sow outdoors in May/June in a prepared seed bed, very thinly 1.5mm (1/16in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart. Thin out seedlings, when large enough to handle, to 15cm (6in) apart.
