What's not to like about these graceful perennial plants! Tall clumps of slender, semi-evergreen, grass-like leaves are topped with a profusion of arching flower stems in July and August. The exquisite bell-shaped flowers drip from incredibly delicate stems, swaying and nodding in the slightest breeze, giving rise to the common name Angel’s Fishing Rod. This Dierama collection is a wonderful addition to cottage gardens, gravel gardens or herbaceous borders, where they partner well with ornamental grasses. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 45cm (18"). All supplied in 9cm pots.

  • Collection comprises:
  • Dierama pulcherrimum 'Blackberry Bells' – Rich purple flowers on tall graceful stems.
  • Dierama argyreum – Pure white flowers on delicate arching stems.
  • Dierama erectum – Pink-mauve flowers borne on slender upright stems.

Gradually acclimatise Dierama plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Grow Dierama in rich, fertile, well drained soil, in full sun. Angel’s Fishing Rod particularly resents wet soil in winter. Prior to planting, improve heavy soils by incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure or compost. Plant Angel's Fishing Rod plants at the same level as they were in the pot and firm in, watering well to settle the soil.
Water Dierama plants regularly until fully established. In spring, cut back faded Dierama flowers and stems. Large established clumps of Angel’s Fishing Rod can be lifted and divided in spring but this should only be carried out occasionally as they resent disturbance and are slow to re-establish.
