A truly spectacular half-hardy perennial, native to Madeira and commonly called the 'Madeira Cranesbill'. This giant geranium produces large, exotic, deeply toothed leaves that radiate from a stout central trunk. Pretty pink flowers with magenta centres are produced from the second year on multiple branching stems, making a really show-stopping summer display! It has even been awarded the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding excellence. Geranium maderense will benefit from some winter protection so is best grown in a conservatory or large patio container which can be moved to a frost-free location. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Supplied in 12cm pots.

Pot up geranium plants and grow them on in frost free conditions. When plants are fully rooted into their pots, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days and transplant into their final positions in large containers or sheltered borders. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position on any well drained soil. Work some well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil prior to planting.

Water geranium plants regularly until fully established. In autumn, bring containers of Geranium maderense undercover to a bright, frost-free position. Border-grown plants should be lifted and potted up for the winter. Take care not to over-water Giant Herb Robert in the winter, keeping the soil just moist.
