Hawthorn hedging is perfect for security hedging, the dense growth and thorny stems will deter most intruders, including unwanted larger animals and once established it will create a virtually inpenetrable barrier. Not only is Hawthorn an impressive boundary hedging plant, it also bears masses of white blooms in early summer that give it it's colloquial name "May". These clusters of flowers will later turn into bright red berries in autumn which will be much appreciated by wildlife. Supplied as 60 - 90 cm bareroots (24 - 35") Height: 8m (26'). Spread: 8m (26'). Water regularly until fully established. Blackthorn require little aftercare. Simply remove any diseased, damaged or crossing shoots to maintain a healthy framework. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plants in spring, taking care not to mound mulch up against the stems.
