Flowering Months
Feed and water plants regularly until they are fully established. Deadhead faded helenium flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Divide overcrowded clumps of helenium in spring and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant.
Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. Plant helenium bareroots at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged), plants should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position. Helenium prefers a sunny position on reliably moist soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil to improve its structure and fertility prior to planting. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the bareroot with its roots spread out and deep enough that the crown of the plant is just a few cm below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Water well to settle the soil.
