It’s easy to be seduced by colourful flowers, but it’s foliage that provides the very longest season of colour and Heuchera excel in this field. The Rex series have been selected for their strong growth and very large, densely-packed leaves which have superb weather tolerance. Heuchera 'Rex Black' has dark, nearly black leaves and airy panicles of pale pink flowers from May to June. It’s invaluable for providing foliage contrast and interest in container displays and along the front of borders. Height and spread: 50cm (20in).

Heuchera plants dislike soils which are particularly dry or have a tendency to waterlogging. Plant them in moist, fertile, well drained soil, adding plenty of compost or well rotted manure to amend heavy clay or sandy soils. Choose a position towards the front of the border in full sun or semi shade.

Feed and water coral flower plants regularly until they are fully established.Apply a mulch of well rotted manure around the crown of each plant each spring. Lift and divide clumps of heuchera plants every 3 years in autumn to maintain vigorous, healthy growth.
