Hardy hibiscus are prized for their eye-catching, exotic blooms. Throughout summer the lobed, bright green foliage makes an attractive backdrop for summer flowering perennials. By august, when other plants are fading, Hibiscus syriacus takes centre stage. Their flamboyant blooms and tropical colours bring valuable late summer interest to the garden. Unlike many cultivars, the ‘Pillar’ series have a slender, columnar habit, reaching just 60cm (24") wide - perfectly proportioned for even the smallest of gardens. For the best display, plant them in sunny borders or patio containers where they can soak up the sun throughout the summer months. Height: 2m (79"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Collection comprises one each of:
Hibiscus syriacus ‘Purple Pillar’ - Tropical looking, mauve flowers with bright raspberry-red centres.
Hibiscus syriacus 'White Pillar' - Ice-white, semi double flowers stand out against the bright green foliage.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow Hibiscus on rich fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, in full sun. When growing hibiscus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3.
Feed and water hibiscus regularly until fully established. Apply a dry mulch such as bark chips to the base if the plant in autumn to protect from winter cold. Prune hibiscus in late spring, removing any stems that have died back or been damaged over winter. Hibiscus are often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that are slow to start into growth in spring - they may remain dormant until May!
