With its unique columnar habit, Hibiscus syriacus ‘Purple Pillar’ is perfect for gardens where space is scarce. Reaching just 60cm (24") wide it fits snugly into narrow borders and patio containers. This hardy deciduous shrub is undemanding and easy to grow. The glossy, lobed foliage makes an attractive backdrop for its tropical blooms which appear from august, bringing late summer colour to the garden when many other plants are ‘running out of steam’. Height: 2m (79"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

2 X 13cm Potted Hibiscus Plant (80597)

Feed and water hibiscus regularly until fully established. Apply a dry mulch such as bark chips to the base if the plant in autumn to protect from winter cold. Prune hibiscus in late spring, removing any stems that have died back or been damaged over winter.  Hibiscus are often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that are slow to start into growth in spring - they may remain dormant until May!
Grow Hibiscus on rich fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, in full sun. When growing hibiscus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3.
