Delivery Information View Product DescriptionSorry this item is unavailable, why not try these products insteadDescription How to Grow DeliveryThis compact buckthorn reaches only 2 to 3 metres and is ideal as a coastal hedging plant, tolerating drought, exposure, salt-spray and poor soils.
Hippophae rhamnoides ‘Julia’ forms a bushy, deciduous shrub, clothed in silvery-green willow-like leaves followed by insignificant clusters of greenish, nectar-rich flowers which are attractive to pollinators. ‘Julia’ is slightly less thorny than the native species. It makes a useful shelter belt plant that offers both privacy and protection. Alternatively use it as a solitary specimen in a mixed border where its profuse clusters of large, orange-red berries put on a showy display in September and persist through winter. The sour berries are edible and packed with vitamin C. This female variety requires pollination from a male plant to set fruit. Height and spread: 2-3m (6.5-9.8ft).

Plant Hippophae rhamnoides in well drained, neutral to alkaline soil, in full sun. Mature plants are very drought tolerant but water well until established. Please note that this plant can be invasive and therefore the planting site should be chosen carefully and plants managed vigilantly to avoid spread.Seeds and garden supplies will normally be delivered within the time period stated against each product as detailed above.
