Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Hollyhocks are a traditional feature of cottage garden borders and 'Halo Mixed' adds height and colour, with tall stems, almost 2 metres (6ft 6") high, full of bi-coloured flowers, with shades of pink, purple, white, red and yellow. Once planted, they will flower the following year and every year thereafter. Alcea rosea do well in sunny positions and are longer flowering than other Hollyhock cultivars, and will will bloom from June to July. They are great pollinators and will attract bees and butterflies to your garden, making it wildlife friendly. Height: 180cm (71"). Spread: 60cm (24"). Supplied as large plug plants.

Culinary information: try crystallising the flowers for a tasty cake decoration, or use them to make a delicately flavoured syrup to use with puddings. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Feed and water regularly until hollyhocks are fully established. Support their tall stems with bamboo canes as the flower spikes develop. In autumn, cut back the old foliage and faded hollyhock flower stems, and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant.
Gradually acclimatise Hollyhocks to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days and transplant into sunny borders. Grow hollyhocks in a sheltered position away from strong winds. Plant in full sun, on fertile, well drained soil.
