Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Hosta is a classic shade-loving plant that will thrive where dozens of other plants give up the ghost. Hosta fortunei 'Albomarginata' will appreciate moist but well drained soil and will give a welcome flash of colour in a deeply shaded border, it can also cope with dry shade areas too. The large ridged leaves have an irregular creamy white edge and during summer you can expect a display of often fragrant flowers. Height: 55cm (22"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Culinary information: The best part to use is the hoston, the rolled up leaf as it emerges in the spring. Cooking depends on the size of the hostons, small ones can be fried for a few minutes, going well in stir fries. Thicker ones are better boiled and used as a vegetable. Plant Hostas in sun or dappled shade on well drained soil. Slugs and snails are particularly fond of Hostas so it is worth providing young plants with some protection while they establish.
In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Lift and divide Hosta plants in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour.
