Hostas are well-loved for their dramatic, large leaves. This collection brings together three superb varieties with particularly showy foliage, that will create an unforgettable display. With a dense, clump forming habit, these hardy perennials will spread to create superb ground cover for those challenging shaded areas of the garden. Ideal for the front of borders or planting into patio containers. They bring a claming, leafy feel to courtyard gardens, softening the edges of paved areas.

Hosta 'Giant Leaved Mix' comprises:

  • Hosta sieboldiana var. elegans - Architectural, blue-green foliage, which is great for the shaded end of cottage garden borders. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 120cm (48").
  • Hosta 'Frances Williams' - The crinkled, blue-green leaves are edged with golden margins that make a pleasing contrast. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 75cm (29").
  • Hosta ‘Olive Bailey Langdon’ – Large, corrugated blue-green leaves with wide golden margins that resist sun scorch. Height: 75cm (29"). Spread: 120cm (48").

When growing Hostas, choose a position in partial or dappled shade on fertile, moist, well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils. Alternatively plant Hostas in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Lift and divide Hosta plants in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour.
