Beat the slugs and snails with this specially selected collection of slug resistant Hostas! The thick, glaucous foliage of these handsome varieties is less likely to be nibbled than many cultivars. These hardy perennials are ideal for shaded borders or containers. Perfect for creating ground cover in woodland gardens, or on the outskirts of ponds and boggy areas. Supplied as bareroot plants.

Collection comprises 1 each of:

Hosta ‘Halcyon’ - Dense clumps of grey-green flowers, topped with lavender flower spikes in late summer. Height and spread: 50cm (20").

Hosta ‘Blue Mouse Ears’ - Charmingly compact, with rounded blue-green foliage and lavender-pink blooms. Height and spread: 30cm (12").

Hosta ‘First Frost’ - Handsome, variegated foliage with a broad gold edge that remains attractive until the first frosts. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 90cm (36").

In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Lift and divide Hosta plants in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour.
On delivery of your bareroot Hostas please plant them at the earliest opportunity. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged); bareroots should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position. Choose a position in sun or dappled shade onrich fertile, well drained soil and work some compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the bareroot with its roots spread out and deep enough that the crown of the plant is just a few cm below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Leave a slight depression around the plant - this will help to direct water towards the roots. Water well to settle the soil.
